Summer is just around the corner, which typically means it’s time to break out the shorts, summer dresses, and shades in preparation for all the sunshine coming our way. Remember Those Who Have Served
A number of cities and communities throughout the state will be commemorating Memorial Day by hosting ceremonies and special gatherings open for everyone to take part. Here in Corvallis, the traditional Memorial Day Ceremony will be held in Crystal Lake Cemetery in South Corvallis. The ceremony will include speeches by local leaders, musicians, and other ceremony participants. Wreaths will also be placed in symbolic remembrance of all who have served to preserve our nation. The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs will also be holding a ceremony on Memorial Day at the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial in Salem, OR. The names of Oregon veterans killed in action will be read from the Memorial’s wall.
Be One with Art and Nature
Schreiner’s Iris Gardens in Salem, OR will be hosting its Fourth Annual Artist’s Fair in the Gardens from Saturday May 28th to Monday May 30th. Enjoy a three day weekend of incredible art, wine, and beer made by local artists, winemakers, and brewers, while you walk among the beautiful backdrop of acres and acres of irises. If you stay for the Annual Memorial Day Celebration on May 30th, you can enjoy the gardens as well the live musical performances for free, while lunch of chicken BBQ will be offered for $11 per plate.
Enjoy a Weekend of Wine Tasting
If you happen to be a wine lover, you’ll be excited to hear that many of the local vineyards will be hosting Open House events and other celebrations throughout Memorial Day weekend. Come out for some fun and light nibbles as well as various tastings of wine, from light whites to vintage pinot noirs. Tyee Wine Cellars in Corvallis, for example, will also feature live music, food, lawn games, and more. Come out and enjoy the scenic nature trails and vineyards the entire three-day weekend!
