The Jeep Wrangler has been conquering obstacles off-road for generations, ever since its military predecessors helped the Allies beat the Axis back in World War II. Today's obstacles are either in the form of massive rocks out on the trail or wannabe Jeep Wrangler imitations in car dealer showrooms. The 2023 Jeep Wrangler is more than a match for them all. Its off-road prowess keeps growing and so does its global reputation.
2023 Jeep Wrangler: Still king of the mountain (And streams and valleys)

Performance of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler
At Wilson Motors in Corvallis, few things are more fun than talking about life off-road with our intrepid customers in Albany and Salem OR. The fun is ramped up every year as engineers for the Jeep Wrangler keep coming up with more and better engine choices. For 2023, the Wrangler offers power plants in four-, six- and eight-cylinder variations along with a plug-in hybrid known as the Wrangler 4xe.
Wrangler Engine Options
The Wrangler for 2023 gives buyers in Lebanon and Newport, OR a choice of five engines. At the base is a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower that you can team up with the fun of a six-speed manual or go with an eight-speed automatic. Next up is a 2.0-liter turbo-four that's good for 270 horsepower, followed by the extra torque and fuel efficiency you'd get with 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6.
At the top is the outrageously capable Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 with a crazy-strong 6.4-liter V8 with 470 horsepower. The counterfeit Jeep knock-offs have nothing in the way of power that even comes close, especially when the Rubicon 392 is scorching test tracks with a zero-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds. We'll talk about the hybrid option next.
Jeep Wrangler 4xe
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler lineup includes a hybrid called the 4xe that comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four gasoline-powered engine. Gas power does most of the heavy lifting, delivering 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with help from the hybrid configuration. Jeep states an "mpg-equivalent" rating of 49 but it's based on electric-only driving which is limited to 20 miles. By itself, the gas-only four-cylinder gets 20 mpg when the battery runs out.
New for 2023 in the 4xe: Two colors
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is virtually the same as before except for 2 new paint colors. One is gray and is called "Earl," which we're guessing is a reference to Earl Gray tea. The other new shade is a purple that's been dubbed "Reign." ("Purple Reign," a la Prince: Get it?)

Interior of the new Jeep Wrangler
For the broader Jeep Wrangler line for 2023, you can choose between a 7- and an 8.4-inch touchscreen to manage the infotainment system. Smartphone compatibility now comes standard in the Wrangler along with another standard feature that will be much-appreciated: Air conditioning. Power windows and remote start are available and the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited offers exceptional storage at 72.4 cubic feet with rear seats folded.

Fuel economy in the new Wrangler
The base V6 with a manual transmission acquits itself in the efficiency department with up to 25 mpg on local highways. If gas mileage is a high priority - and you'd like some extra muscle and durability as an added bonus - get the turbo-diesel V6. You'll get a respectable 22 mpg in the city and an impressive 29 mpg on highways.
